UK Plans Major Bureaucracy Overhaul

The UK government has announced a “radical shake-up” of its bureaucracy, aiming to cut administrative costs for businesses by 25%.

The UK government has announced a “radical shake-up” of its bureaucracy, aiming to cut administrative costs for businesses by 25%.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves will present an “action plan” on Monday to reduce excessive regulations. The initiative includes cutting the number of regulators, simplifying environmental rules for major projects, and scrapping hundreds of pages of regulations, including guidelines on bat habitat protection.

Additionally, 60 measures have been agreed upon to improve the business environment, such as fast-tracking new medicines to market and simplifying mortgage lending rules.

“By cutting red tape, we will attract investment, create jobs, and improve living standards,” Reeves stated.

The reform comes as Prime Minister Keir Starmer pushes to overhaul what he calls an inefficient system. However, his government, elected in July, is already facing declining approval ratings. According to an Ipsos poll, 48% of Britons are dissatisfied with the government’s performance, while 49% believe its economic policies will have a negative impact.
